Tax time!

Filed my taxes last week. Getting some good money back. At least I consider $600 to be good :)

Then the next day came. Turns out Coca-Cola messed up on my original W-2, so they had to send out a new one. The DAY after I filed. No monetary changes, just a little checkbox changed. So I've been hoping all would be well with that...

I'm starting to get excited for this service learning project we're doing at school coming up. As part of our tax class, we will be participating in an AARP program to prepare taxes for the seniors and middle to lower income.

Middle income defined: Less than $100,000 per year! What is this world coming to! The MIDDLE is $100,000! Last year, I made like $25,000 (give or take).

So as part of this program, the IRS and AARP came in today to give a seminar. On the down side, we get 2 whole days of classroom training on how to do this stuff. On the bright side, we get a week off of regular tax class to make up for it, and to take the take-home test. That's right, a really thick book as a take-home test. Please note, paid tax preparers do not need to take any sort of test to start preparing taxes...

One more day of training, then the massive test, then I'll be certified to be a volunteer tax preparer! Hoo-ray!

And DON'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR TELEPHONE EXCISE TAX CREDIT!!! - you're elegible pretty much if you've made a long distance call in the past couple years (somehow 44 months comes to mind?). You don't even have to prove it, you can take a standard amount (30, 40, 50, or $60). Look into it. Even ask me about it. Just don't forget this FREE MONEY!

Oh, and if you're still wondering, I did ask the IRS lady about my W-2 thing, and no I don't have to file an amended return.

There, hopefully I won't be talking tax so much now. Perhaps this will be the most boring post ever! (certainly the most boring post to date!)
